Issues
Look below to see the legal issues we are working to fight.
Reproductive Rights
On June 24, 2022 Roe v. Wade was officially overturned. NNJNOW is working hard on making sure women both in New Jersey and out of state still have affordable access to abortions. One way we are doing this is by supporting bill A4350/S2918. This bill focusing on three main reforms:

-
It will mandate that insurance plans in New Jersey cover abortion and birth control with no cost sharing or out of pocket costs just like NY, ME, IL, CA, OR and WA have done.
-
It will ensure state funding for abortion, especially for people who have no pathway to insurance, including some of our immigrant community members.
-
It will codify the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners (BME) expansion of medical professionals who can provide abortion care to ensure these qualified providers will always be there for us.

If you want to help you can contact your local representative and senators using the letter template below:
I am writing today to urge you to meet this moment with action and stand up for reproductive rights for everyone — regardless of income, ZIP code, or immigration status.
New Jersey needs legislation that removes remaining cost barriers so that everyone has access to this time-sensitive care and can make personal decisions about their own bodies and their own lives. Now, legislation has been crafted to do just that. I urge you to support A4350 by advocating for a scheduled committee hearing.
At this critical moment in history, I ask that you reject abortion stigma and inflammatory rhetoric and fight for better abortion access. Because rights without access are meaningless.
Thank you.
The Reproductive Freedom Act

The Reproductive Freedom Act (S3030/A4848) is groundbreaking legislation that will protect the right to abortion care in NJ. The bills are bottled up in committee. Take Action and go to NOWNJ.org to find out what National Now is doing and what you can do to preserve our reproductive rights.

The ERA

When added to the Constitution, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) will prohibit the denial of equal rights on the basis of sex as one of our foundational constitutional principles. The ERA has been passed by the necessary 38 states, and the attorney generals of the last 3 states to do so (Nevada, Illinois and Virginia) have filed an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals seeking a declaration that the ERA be ratified as the 28th Amendment to the Constitution. Deadlines set decades ago impede this process. On 2/13/2020, the House of Representatives voted to dissolve time limits on ratification, but the Senate still needs to do so as well.
Take Action and tell your senators that there should be no time limit on equal rights. Now that the House has voted, it’s time for the Senate to act. Go to https://erayes2021.org/ and Ask Senator Sinema to End the Filibuster; Urge Your Senators to Pass the ERA and Share Your Story.
